Honors Guaranteed Admission Programs
Qualified high school seniors can apply for a place in Missouri's schools of journalism, medicine, law, veterinary medicine, nursing and health professions. Students in guaranteed admission programs can take University Honors College classes and (in the case of medicine) work in labs, sit in on medical school classes and observe surgery at University Hospital.
Effective Fall 2004, any incoming freshman journalism major that is admitted to the Honors College will be admitted to the School of Journalism. Admitted students will be designated as Journalism Scholars or Walter Williams Scholars. Journalism Scholars are eligible to take some journalism courses a semester earlier than nonscholars, participate in a Freshman Interest Group designed exclusively for journalism students, and participate in social and academic activities planned exclusively for Journalism Scholars. The highest-achieving Journalism Scholars will win separate designation as Walter Williams Scholars. To win acceptance into this exclusive circle of top scholars, incoming freshmen must earn an ACT composite score of 33 or higher (1470 or higher on the SAT). Walter Williams Scholars enjoy the same benefits as Journalism Scholars, plus they will have the chance to work with individual faculty mentors and receive a $1000.00 scholarship that can be used to study abroad or participate in the School of Journalism programs in New York or Washington. For additional information please contact the School of Journalism.
High school seniors in Missouri and contiguous states are eligible to apply for acceptance into the Conley Scholars Program, which assures them acceptance into the School of Medicine when they successfully complete their undergraduate work at MU. Undergraduate students in this program may help conduct medical research, participate in clinically related activities such as observing surgeries and take a variety of undergraduate classes instead of feeling restricted to primarily pre-medical classes. Conley Scholars are advised by a School of Medicine faculty member and are not required to take the Medical College Admission Test. To apply to the program, students must score a minimum of 30 on the ACT or 1300 on the SAT. The deadline for applying is Feb. 1 of the senior year of high school. For an application or additional information please contact the Conley Scholars Program at the MU School of Medicine.
Roberts Scholars students are guaranteed admission to MU's School
of Law. To apply, students must have a minimum score of 30 on the ACT or
1320 on the SAT. If you are chosen to be a Roberts Scholar, you must maintain
a 3.5 undergraduate GPA and receive an MU degree. Prior to entering MU's School
of Law, Roberts Scholars are required to complete regular Law School admission
procedures which include taking the LSAT; however, scores will not affect admission.
For an application or additional information call MU's Law School at (573) 882-6042.
High school seniors and MU freshmen with an ACT composite score of 30 or comparable SAT score may apply. Applicants will be invited for an interview. Selection is based on meeting the academic requirements and attaining a satisfactory score from the interview. Eligibility is not limited to Missouri residents; however, the number of non-resident students who can be accepted may be limited. Students in the program must complete at least 10 hours of honors course work, achieve a grade of B or higher in all required pre-vet courses, achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, and achieve a percentile score of more than 50 on the VCAT. For additional information please contact the College of Veterinary Medicine.
High school seniors with an ACT score of at least 29 and who are in the top 10% percent of their high school class can be guaranteed admission into MU's School of Nursing clinical nursing major. All students must be admitted to the Honors College. Students must complete 12 hours of honors courses and maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA before starting the clinical nursing major. For more information, contact the School of Nursing Student Affairs Office at (573) 882-0277.
