Undergraduate Scholarships
The Brazeal Honors College Endowed Diversity Scholarship
The Honors College is pleased to invite your inquiries into the Brazeal Honors College Diversity Scholarship. This Scholarship, made possible through the generosity of James H. and Catherine A Brazeal, is designed to be a four-year award for high-ability minority students, with any major, from anywhere in the United Sates. Preference is given to African-American students.
For Fall 2008, recipients of the Brazeal Scholarship will receive:
-At least $12,500 a year, renewable for a total of four years
-Waiver of out-of-state tuition
-An additional $6,000 to cover the costs associated with an MU Study Abroad Program
-$1,700 a year stipend for four years for participation in the MU Discovery Fellows Research program
Recipients of the Brazeal Scholarship are eligible to receive National Merit, Bright Flight, and Inroads Scholarships. They may not be eligible for certain general University Scholarships such as Nonresident Scholars Award, Curators Scholars Award, Excellence Award, George Brooks Scholarship, Diversity Award, etc.

Honors College Endowed Scholarships
Scholarship applications for the following endowed scholarships are available
in January of each year for current Honors College students. (There are no scholarships
available to incoming freshmen who are fully-admitted into the Honors College.)
Applications are typically due in early March and winners are announced at the
Honors College Spring Reception.

An applicant must be a graduate of a Missouri high school with a strong academic record, be able to show financial need (as determined by Financial Aid standards), and be enrolled in the College of Arts and Science or in the School of Journalism.
An applicant must be enrolled as an Arts and Science freshman.* Selection is based on scholarship and literary attainment, without regard to financial need.
An applicant must be enrolled as an Arts and Science freshman or sophomore.* Particular attention is given to those who plan a major or career in art, music, communications, art history & archaeology, classical studies, English, German, Russian or Asian Studies, philosophy or romance languages. Scholastic excellence and financial need (as determined by Financial Aid standards) are the basis for selection.
An applicant must be enrolled as a freshman,* have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, and have freshman year coursework that represents the ideals of a good honors education.
Applicants should also provide the following supporting materials:
- The application plus one letter of recommendation from a MU faculty member.
- A copy of the applicant's most current transcript including a list of present courses.
- A brief, but persuasive, statement addressing why the applicant should receive the scholarship.
*Class standing is determined by year in college,
not credit hours.
Applications are available during the winter semester and typically are due in
mid-March. Applications and supporting materials (listed above) must be submitted
together.
