Honors Certificate Application

Applications for Graduation with the Honors Certificate are due by 4:00 PM on the third Friday of the term in which you are graduating.

There are several ways to graduate with honors at MU. Each of these distinctions will appear on your transcript as evidence of the challenging and enriching program of study you undertake at the University of Missouri. Graduating with the Honors Certificate makes you eligible for the Honors Convocation.

Requirements for Graduating with the Honors Certificate

Honors Certificate Eligibility For students enrolling at MU for the first time in Fall 2017 or later
  • Students must complete 24 or more hours of courses for honors credit.
  • Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • The 24 hours may include any number of General Honors and Departmental Honors course credits but no more than 9 hours of honors transfer credit, 9 hours of Learning-by-Contract credit, 6 hours of approved study abroad credit, and 9 hours of graduate coursework credit.
  • Students must achieve a minimum letter grade for each course: a C- or Satisfactory (S) or better for regular honors or graduate courses or a B or better for Learning-by-Contract courses.
  • In order to participate in the Honors Convocation, students must apply no later than the end of the third week of classes in their final semester. Eligibility to participate in the Honors Convocation will be made based on the honors credits for which you are enrolled in your final semester (if any), along with the honors credits listed on your transcript and your cumulative GPA as recorded at the end of the semester prior to the one in which you graduate.
  • Your Honors Certificate eligibility will be verified after Graduation to confirm that your GPA is still within the eligibility limits, that Learning-by-Contract courses are complete, and to make certain you have completed 24 eligible honors credit hours. Participation in the Honors Convocation does not guarantee you will be awarded an Honors Certificate.
