Clarissa Durie

Biography

The Durie lab investigates the molecular machines of microbial pathogens. These are the protein complexes that allow bacteria to thrive in various environments, including during infection. We use cryo-electron microscopy to determine molecular structures of protein machines, and these structures allow us to propose mechanistic hypotheses which we then test by biochemical and biophysical methods. This approach allows to learn about both the disease-causing pathogen and the fundamental properties of enzymes.
