The Honors College Communication Internship team plays an important role in telling the Honors story. They showcase their storytelling skills in a variety of ways and through numerous communication channels.
The team includes four students. Meet one of the new faces on the team, Sophia Anderson! Anderson is a junior journalism and sociology double major.
How did you find your way to the University of Missouri?
I came to Mizzou because the School of Journalism was the best fit for the work I wanted to do. I also got a great scholarship, which helped a lot as an out-of-state student.
What interested you in the School of Journalism at Mizzou?
I was really excited about the School of Journalism because of how many opportunities I had to actually do journalism starting on day one. I wanted the advantage of having lots of experience by the time I graduate so I can be competitive in the job market.
Could you talk about being part of the Honors College and some of the opportunities you’ve had through the college?
I really loved my Honors FIG from freshman year, and I’m a TA for the same class now, which is super fun. It’s also great to get priority registration for classes – it takes a lot of the stress off.
Do you have a favorite Honors class that you’ve participated in?
I took Black Studies/German 3605 last semester, which was amazing. We learned about German colonization in Africa and the cultural legacy of African immigrants to Europe. It was super eye-opening. The Honors element of the class was writing profiles on Afro-German historical figures for Europeana, a digital catalogue of European cultural history.
What’s a fun fact about you that others may not know?
I beatbox in a competitive a cappella group at Mizzou!
