Requirements for Graduating with the Honors Certificate

Applications for graduation with the Honors Certificate are due by 4 p.m. on the third Friday of the term in which you are graduating. Graduating with the Honors Certificate makes you eligible for the Honors College graduation ceremony held in Jesse Hall.

  • Students must complete 24 or more hours of courses for Honors credit.
  • Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • The 24 credit hours may include any number of General Honors and Departmental Honors course credits but no more than nine hours of Honors transfer credit, nine hours of Learning-by-Contract credit, six hours of approved study abroad credit, and nine hours of graduate coursework credit.
  • Students must achieve a minimum letter grade for each course: A C- or Satisfactory (S) or better for regular Honors or graduate courses, or a B or better for Learning-by-Contract courses.
  • In order to participate in the Honors College graduation ceremony, students must apply no later than the end of the third week of classes in their final semester. Eligibility to participate in the graduation ceremony will be made based on the Honors credits for which you are enrolled in your final semester (if any), along with the Honors credits listed on your transcript and your cumulative GPA as recorded at the end of the semester prior to the one in which you graduate.
  • Your Honors Certificate eligibility will be verified after graduation to confirm that your GPA is still within the eligibility limits, that Learning-by-Contract courses are complete, and to make certain you have completed 24 eligible Honors credit hours. Participation in the Honors College graduation ceremony does not guarantee you will be awarded an Honors Certificate.

Students are encouraged to meet with their Honors advisor regularly so that they may get to know you and help you achieve your goals. The advising team is available to assist you with academic, personal and professional questions.
