The University of Missouri and the Missouri Scholars Academy are happy to offer a small number competitive scholarships for MSA alumni who plan to continue “Week 4” at Mizzou! Boomba Tiger recipients are awarded $5,000 for the year.
Founded in 1985, the Missouri Scholars Academy is a three-week residential program for 330 of Missouri’s academically gifted students who are ready to begin their junior year of high school. The Academy is held each June on the campus of the University of Missouri and administered by the University of Missouri Honors College.
The Academy reflects Missouri’s desire to strive for excellence in education at all levels. The program is based on the premise that Missouri’s gifted youth must be provided with special opportunities for learning and personal development in order for them to realize their full potential.
With a carefully selected faculty and staff, a specially-designed curriculum with interdisciplinary courses and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities, the Academy enables students to be part of a unique learning community. The Academy provides a model that all schools can use in building or expanding their own programs for gifted students. Educators who have served as faculty members have used this experience to benefit students in their local schools.
To be eligible for consideration for the Boomba Tiger Scholarship, you must be an MSA alum.
How to Apply

Step 3: Submit the Premier Scholars application (which includes the Stamps Scholarship, Brazeal Scholarship, Boomba Tiger Scholarship and Discovery Fellows) via your Application Status Page. This application includes:
- An additional essay of 500-750 words in response to the following prompt:
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak directly to your academic abilities, achievements, and character. They should be teachers, school counselors, coaches, supervisors; one letter must be written by a teacher or counselor.
- Your writers/references will be sent a link to submit their letters of recommendation. Recommendation letters must be submitted by the Dec. 1 deadline.
Honors College application guidelines regarding your essay: In evaluating your application, we want to get a picture of your own independent thinking and creativity. Responses to application essay questions should reflect your own ideas and experiences, be independently written by you and reflect your personal writing style. You may receive advice on content and editing, including the use of generative artificial intelligence software to assist with readability only (e.g. making grammar or clarity suggestions for revising the work that you have already generated). Content, substance and final written text must be your own. You are ultimately responsible for the accuracy and readability of your work.
