Maintaining Membership

In order to remain in the Honors College, students must fulfill both the GPA and participation requirements:

GPA Requirement

  • To remain in the Honors College, students must maintain a University of Missouri cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above. Please note that students must have a University of Missouri cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above at the time of graduation to qualify for the Honors Certificate. Students with a University of Missouri cumulative GPA below 3.3 will receive a warning letter the first semester in which this occurs. A student with a cumulative GPA below 3.3 for a second consecutive semester will no longer be a member of the Honors College. Students with a cumulative GPA below 3.0 will be removed immediately.

Participation Requirements

  • Students who join the Honors College as first-year students will be required to complete two Honors courses per year for their first two years at Mizzou. Beginning in fall of 2025, every incoming student must take a Gn Hon class in their first year. If a student completes more than two Honors courses in their first year, these cannot be rolled over to count in their second year.
  • Students who join the Honors College as first-year students must read the selected Honors One Read book and attend the One Read Symposium in August.
  • Mizzou students who join the Honors College in their sophomore year and transfer students who are admitted with sophomore standing will be required to complete two Honors courses in their first year of Honors College membership.

Note: Many of our scholarship and research programs require one Honors course per semester. Please make sure that you understand the terms of your award as it pertains to this requirement.

Honors Advising

Students are encouraged to meet with their Honors advisor regularly so that they may get to know you and help you achieve your goals. The advising team is available to assist you with academic, personal and professional questions.
