Strengthen a dynamic Honors community that fosters belonging, collaboration and lifelong connections among students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Strategy One: Enrich residential, academic and cohort-based experiences that connect students across disciplines, perspectives and interests. 

  • Assess and investigate student needs around peer-to-peer community building.  
  • Develop intentional cohort-based community structures for Honors students beginning in their first year.  
  • Create opportunities for students to connect around shared academic, professional and personal interests.   

Strategy Two: Intentionally nurture opportunities for authentic faculty-student connections to develop into mentorship and collaboration. 

  • Provide faculty development that supports the Honors educational experience.  
  • Increase all Honors student access to faculty through intentional community-building initiatives.  

Strategy Three: Promote trusted, consistent support through which staff guide students in making the most of their individualized Honors experience.  

  • Increase student engagement with Honors advising and support services. 
  • Support student success through proactive and holistic advising.  
  • Strengthen the Honors advising model through sustainable workloads.  

Strategy Four: Design and expand intentional alumni engagement for philanthropic support and professional networking. 

  • Develop a comprehensive Honors alumni network for engagement and philanthropic support. 
  • Expand opportunities for meaningful student-alumni interaction.   
  • Create structured mentoring and career development programs connecting students and alumni.  
  • Cultivate a culture of lifelong engagement among current Honors students and recent alumni.  

The Honors College advances the core goals of the University of Missouri by promoting student success, deepening research engagement and strengthening community connections across campus. Our priorities align directly with Mizzou’s commitment to an exceptional student experience and with the Power the Roar campaign’s focus on educating future leaders, improving lives and building stronger communities. Together, these shared goals position Honors as a central driver of academic excellence and student opportunity at Missouri’s flagship university.
