Honors College Summer Welcome

Required of Honors Students 

  • Summer Orientation. If you are doing an on-campus summer orientation, please check in by 8 a.m. so you can attend the Honors College presentation at 8:30 a.m.! 
  • Honors Classes. Look over the Honors Course Catalog before your Summer Welcome advising appointment and note your top choices. To stay active in the Honors College, you will need to take at least one General Honors (GN_HON) class during your first year and a minimum of two Honors classes a year for your first two years.
  • Honors One Read. Get a copy of Defiant Dreams: The Journey of an Afghan Girl Who Risked Everything for Education (written by Sola Mahfouz and Malaina Kapoor),the 2026 Honors One Read selection, through Amazon or your local bookseller, and start reading! You may also purchase a copy when you are on campus for Summer Welcome. 
  • One Read Symposium. Then, mark your calendar for our Honors One Read Symposium with the author at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, in the historic Missouri Theatre. Attendance is required of all incoming Honors students.

  • The Honors College and the Office of Global and National Fellowships will have a table at the Mizzou Fair during Summer Welcome. 
  • If you are interested in earning a scholarship to conduct research as an ASH Scholar, complete an application between June 1-July 31.
