Story by Tanner O’Neal RileyPhotos by Logan Jackson When one thinks of an Honors College class, what most often comes to mind? History, theology, anthropology and perhaps sociology, to name a few. That’s exactly what Doug Valentine’s one-credit Honors Tutorial on fandom, offered through the Mizzou Honors College, seeks to explore. In his course, Fandoms: Gamers, Football, and K-Pop, Oh My!, he invites students…

‘Excited to be a Tiger’

Story and photo by Logan Jackson A personal tragedy set Casper Safranski on a mission to advocate for others. As a middle schooler, Safranski lost his best friend to Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a very aggressive brain cancer that primarily affects children and is, unfortunately, incurable. After his friend passed, Safranski began looking for ways to raise awareness for DIPG, as well as other pediatric cancers. He found a partner in the Super Sam Foundation, which supports families fighting pediatric cancer. Safranski also met with Missouri legislators to discuss funding opportunities for cancer research. “Neil…

There was one university that continued to pop up on nearly every search she did – the University of Missouri. “Every list I saw that featured the top journalism schools from across the country included Mizzou,” Walker said. “I wasn’t really planning on attending a school in the Midwest, but I figured I would at least tour the campus. My dad and I toured…

Through that, I really got interested in medical imagery and recovery techniques. Those…

My visit to Columbia was fantastic. I have a life-threatening…
