Celebrating 70 Years of the MU Honors Humanities Sequence

One of the University of Missouri’s longest-running courses, the Humanities Sequence has introduced students to big ideas, questions, and debates of the Western tradition for 70 years. The Honors College is excited to offer a weekend for you to revisit what you loved about the Humanities! 

  • Friday, Nov. 1 – Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat
    • 7 p.m.

    • The Honors College has a limited number of complimentary tickets for early registrations. Tickets may also be purchased in advance or at the door.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2 – Humanities Celebration
    • 8 a.m. — 3 p.m.
    • State Historical Society of Missouri

    • 8-8:30 a.m. – Continental breakfast
    • 8:30-9 a.m. – Welcome and introductions
    • 9-9:45 a.m. – The Humanities at Mizzou: Past, Present, and Future (Rachel Harper, coordinator of the Humanities Sequence)
    • 10-11:30 a.m. – “Sympathy for the Devil: Goethe’s Faust and its Resonances in Art and Music” (lecture by Sean Franzel and performance by Julie Rosenfeld, associate professor of violin, and friends)
    • 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Lunch and table discussion
    • 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Humanities in Retrospect (Ted Tarkow, Peter Markie, David Schenker and other Humanities faculty)
    • 1:30-2:30 p.m. – Alumni and student panel discussion
    • 2:30 p.m. – Closing remarks
    • 3 p.m. – Museum of Art and Archeology will be open; attendees are welcome to visit
