Toyin Jackson – August & September 2017

Hi! I’ve been at Mizzou for a little over a month now and it’s been going well! The transition has been super different for me and it’s been a struggle but it’s been getting easier. My favorite thing about Mizzou is the campus and the culture. Not that the football team is doing well right now but the football games are super fun and I’ve gone to a few of them. Classes have been pretty good! It just takes time to learn each professor’s testing style and how they teach but it’s been going well for me so far.

I’ve gotten involved in Food Science Association, MU Women in STEM, and LSGR which is a service sorority. For my research project I will be assisting Alan McClure who is a chocolatier and owns a company called Patric Chocolate based here right out of Columbia. I just started so right now I’ve been doing a lot of background research on the cocoa bean but I am looking forward to getting in the lab! Very glad I chose to go to school here though; even though it will take me a while to find my place here I know that this is where I belong.
